Burj Khalifa is a skyscraper located in Dubai (United Arab Emirates). Since April 2008, it has been the tallest building in the world, with the most floors globally, and also the highest usable floor. The building was constructed by the project company Emaar Properties according to plans by architect Adrian Smith from the American architectural firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. Construction began in 2004, and in January 2009, the final height of 828 meters was achieved. The building was inaugurated on January 4, 2010. Until its inauguration, the building was named Burj Dubai; since then, it has been named after the President of the United Arab Emirates, Khalifa bin Zayid Al Nahyan.
