The P-47 Thunderbolt™ is a single-seat fighter and fighter-jet aircraft, the forerunner of modern multi-role fighters.
The largest single-engine fighter of World War II, this aircraft was produced in over 15,000 examples and was the most numerous and one of the most successful US fighter aircraft. The P-47 appeared on the frontlines in Europe, Africa, the Far East and the Pacific. It was fondly called the 'Jug' because of its size. It was an abbreviation for 'Juggernaut' meaning big truck.
