The F-35®A LIGHTNING II® is a single-seat, multi-role combat aircraft developed by Lockheed Martin Corporation.
The F-35 Version A is a conventional take-off and landing aircraft designed to replace the US Air Force's F-16 Fighting Falcon and A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft. It is one of the US defence industry's hottest export products. Since the second decade of the 21st century, it has been used by the Air Force in many countries around the world. On 31 January 2020, Poland signed a contract for the purchase of 5th generation fighters. 32 F-35A conventional take-off and landing aircraft have been ordered, with the first deliveries starting in 2024. The first aircraft will be delivered to the air base in Łask in 2026. Efforts are being made to speed up deliveries! Poland will become the 14th country in the world and the 10th NATO country to join the F-35 programme.

The F-35®A LIGHTNING II® is the lightest version of the aircraft, capable of close support missions, bombing runs and typical air combat missions. A supersonic aircraft with limited in-flight detectability, the F-35 has high reconnaissance and electronic warfare capabilities in detection, tracking, target acquisition and jamming.
The small arms are a 25 mm GAU-12 / U gun mounted in the fuselage.
Missile armament consists of up to 6 AIM-120 AMRAAM, AIM-9X Sidewinder or AIM-132 ASRAAM missiles in internal ammunition compartments or two air-to-air missiles and two 455 kg bombs. Weapons to destroy ground targets can be JSOW or GBU-39 SDB bombs (4 in each bomb chamber), Brimstone anti-tank missiles, cluster bombs or AGM-88 HARM anti-radar missiles. At the cost of losing stealth property, it is possible to hang armament from up to four nodes under the wings and two at the ends of the wings (for AIM-9).
The aircraft project is jointly funded by the governments of the United States, the United Kingdom and other countries interested in purchasing the aircraft. The F-35®B LIGHTNING II® was built under the leadership of Lockheed Martin in collaboration with BAE Systems and Northrop Grumman.
